I was the world's biggest Frankie fan as a kid. I still get the same buzz of excitement when I hear their music as I did as a spotty teenager. I think this is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written.
Apart from "Sledgehammer" I knew very little about Peter Gabriel until I heard this song. I then became obsessed and studied everything he did, delving deep into the complex world of his time with Genesis. A true artist, I had the pleasure of meeting him while recording at his studio in UK. Such a passionate man when it comes to his music.
The debut single from my old band "Budapest", I recorded this live looping version during the lockdown of 2020 having just re-released the 2 Budapest albums myself onto streaming platforms. The song was written in about 20 minutes back in 2000 after I had a daydream about a waiting room that people go to after they die. Everyone introducing themselves and telling their life story and embellishing the facts a little. Which era of life would your best stories be from? Or are they yet to be made?
This song was the last to make it onto the debut Budapest album "Too Blind To Hear". I actually wasn't sure it should be on the album. I wrote it the day before we entered the studio and it therefore hadn't past the "time test". But some how, a Spanish radio station got hold of it and played it so much that it became the 2nd most played song on Spanish Alternative radio in 2002 and entered the Top 10.
